I swear everyone in our town has suddenly come out of hibernation.
After months and months of being cooped up, suddenly everyone’s out and about, the park is bustling and spring sports are ramping up.
Which means lots of fun and lots of excitement, and lots of new kids to chum around with.
But sometimes our kids don’t always share our taste when it comes to choosing their friends, and before we know it our sweet little Jeremy has morphed into a carbon copy of his new pack of friends — and not always in a good way… [Read more…]
The snow has finally melted away, the birds are chirping, and yesterday I saw two motorcycles and a convertible cruising around — I think it’s safe to say that spring is finally here!
The other tell-tale giveaway?
The 50 million sports/activity sign ups that seem to have appeared overnight…
There’s baseball and soccer and lacrosse and ball hockey. Not to mention swimming and tennis and art camp.

I once heard someone say that one child is one and two is a million — and I don’t know about you, but in my personal experience I’d say that’s pretty darn accurate, especially when it comes to sleep.
With my first I have memories of attending to his sleep cues, putting him down for naps or for the night after a lovely ritual of bath time, books and cuddles. Really special one-on-one time where we could go at our own pace completely uninterrupted and on our own terms.

I’m pretty hands off when it comes to my kids’ conflicts.
Sure, I coach them through scuffles and break things up when it gets too intense, but for the most part I’m a fan of letting them work things out on their own. In our house it’s not unusual to hear royal rumbles erupting or to walk in on a wrestling match, and unless someone’s yelling uncle I tend to keep my nose out of it.
Today after school was no exception, my son and I enjoying some time at the park before heading home, when some “big kids” started wrestling on the ground beside us. [Read more…]
